Owen decided to make a leprechaun trap last night about ten minutes before time to go to bed.

Unfortunately, that crafty leprechaun took his golden bait and left him with some chocolate. The leprechaun didn't leave our house without making a little mess and leaving our toilet water green.

What's really hilarious is that Tommy had no idea about the toilet water and wondered what was going on when he finally woke up this morning to take Jack to school.

The only pictures I took today were at school. I have a headache from all of the "festivities"! One of my cutie pies came in this morning with a green moustache and hat. What a cutie!

So, I'm b-a-c-k! I'm not going to even make excuses for how long it has been since I posted an update to this poor neglected blog.

It's just like a soap opera around here, you miss a couple of months, and you can catch up by just watching one day.

A brief recap:

June 2010

Built a pool (well we didn't, the pool company did)

Grandpa planted watermelons and we enjoyed them by the pool. So much so that the seeds which were spit out into the yard began to sprout and we had our own little watermelon vine.

July 2010

Celebrated Jack's 4th birthday with a Thomas the Tank Engine pool party

Owen became an artist

August 2010

Owen started Kindergarten

Jack started PK4

October 2010

Tommy was in a horrific four wheeler accident in Georgia which left him unable to walk for 3 months.
No pictures of this event, well there actually is one, but you wouldn't want to see it.

We celebrated Halloween

November 2010

We went to the fair and took lots of pictures since Tommy couldn't be there with us.

Jack's first trip to the ER.He ran in front of the swing while his brother was swinging.

We celebrated Owen's 6th birthday with a party at home. We also went out to our favorite Japanese restaurant the night before. We opted to forego the huge party this year and just let Owen go to Target and pick out three toys he really wanted. His choices? A Leapster Explorer, a new game, and some Legos.

December 2010

You can barely see Tommy's wheelchair in this one. Thank goodness he doesn't need it anymore.

Jack serenaded everyone at his grandparents' house before opening presents.

Easter Re-cap

Whew! Our spring break week flew by. I was sad to see the time come to an end, but I was a little more sad to hear the alarm clock this morning!

I spent most of the week unpacking box after box, and I'm still not finished. We still have plenty to do around here, though.

Tommy finally started working on our columns on the front of the house on Saturday. He didn't finish that evening, so he had to get up early Sunday to complete the job, which actually wasn't completed until Sunday evening...but we won't go there. He had to stop working to attend the Easter festivities, though.

We started off the day with an egg hunt/lunch at Tommy's aunt's house.

Jack had to check out the contents of each egg before he'd go find another one.

Next, we headed over to Aunt Jackie's for more lunch and another egg hunt.

Jack was a little more into this egg hunt, but both boys were deterred by the big pile of leaves in Aunt Jackie's yard (as evidenced by the pictures below).

Who needs snow to make angels?

Tommy left early to make it back to work on our columns. He had plenty of help back home, but my usually VERY careful husband put a nail through his finger with the nail gun! ((Shudder)) I didn't find this out until I returned home, though. He finished the job even though I'm sure he was in pain.

Above the stone, there used to just be 4x4 boards as columns, but my incredible husband fashioned these columns from concrete board. Some of the columns still need trim around the bottoms and we need to paint all of them, but I love the way they turned out. He's a keeper! :)

While Tommy worked into dark, the boys played in their redneck sandbox. For entertainment, they just hopped on their grandpa's dog and tried to ride him. Poor Buster is a good sport.

Tommy did finally go to the doctor today. They x-rayed his finger to make sure it wasn't fractured, etc. His fingers fine, but he had to get a tetanus shot. They also sent him home with some antibiotic and pain killer. Thank goodness he's fine.

Owen wanted to sing a little song at Tommy's parents' house on Christmas day.

It's quick and very belated!

Merry Christmas!

It's way too early on Christmas morning. I've been up since three when Santa needed help getting presents together. I'm also irritated at myself. I thought there were two presents in one Amazon box, but there was only one when I actually opened the box this morning. Lesson learned. Open the boxes as they come in. That way, customer service can be of some assistance before Christmas morning.

The boys are going to be excited. Santa dropped two new presents off at our new house on his way through town. Those presents will require helmets at all times!

Speaking of the new house, I've been pretty lax about updating and keeping track of the house progress. I don't think I've taken one picture, either. Oops! We're waiting on the sheetrock finishers at the moment. After that, I hope it goes quickly. We're going on five months now. I'm ready and the boys are definitely ready for it to be finished.

The boys are still asleep and I'm going to try to get a little more sleep before the excitement really starts later today. Merry Christmas! :)

Valentine Accordion Mini Album

I brought out (and dusted off) my copy of Making Memory Books and Journals by Hand and was inspired to make this accodion mini album for Valentine's Day.

Pretty simple, just black felt and red buttons sewn onto the cover. It just has cardstock pages for now awaiting embellishments and pictures.

I haven't actually completed any pages yet. But, I'm working on it!

Project 365 (Day 12)

I'm getting used to having a little crafting partner nearby when I work on projects. It's nice to have someone who tells me everything I make is "beautiful."

We made these little ornaments at the Christmas Craft Playdate at my house on Friday. I wish I would have taken a picture of all of the ornaments made by the children, but it was a busy day.

Friday night I attended a small Christmas party with three friends. It's such fun getting together with them. Good times.

Yesterday is just a blur. I had to be up at the crack of dawn to be at the college to take a test to renew my teaching certificate. I parked at least 400 yards away from the actual building, along with five other people. We met four other lost souls on the way to the proper building. We all walked in about five minutes late. Embarrassing. But, at least I wasn't by myself! To top it all off and make the day even crappier, I left my calculator in the car! I had to do all of the math by hand. Not an easy task. I've never done anything as irresponsible as that in my life. Like I said, crappy day.

Today, we are going to meet Tommy's family for lunch. We're going to Bass Pro Shop (the boys love it) and to see the lights at Bellingrath. Hopefully, between those two places, we'll come home with pictures of the boys with Santa. I know, bad mom, not taking them to see Santa yet.

And just because I can.

I love this picture. They look like best buddies just hanging out.

Magic Reindeer Food

front & back

The boys handed these out at our Christmas Craft Playdate today. I totally stole this idea from Angie (who doesn't know me from Adam) at Chic n' Scratch. She's a Stampin' Up demonstrator, and I am not, which you can probably see in my attempt at her design. Since I don't have any of their products, I had to use what I had on hand.

She used a "Big Shot" die for her bag topper. I want a "Big Shot," but since my Sizzix is in the closet with seven layers of dust, I don't think I'd be too convincing at asking for one for Christmas. Anyway, I just started with a rectangular top, folded it in half and drew my curvy design to mimic that Big Shot die. It was pretty simple.

Just be sure not to fill the bags too full. It's a gesture, you aren't taking the reindeer to raise. ;)

Reindeer Stamp: Paper Inspirations (you guessed it, Hobby Lobby)
I just filled the bags with the cheapest oatmeal I could find (it's going on the ground and Santa's reindeer aren't too picky) and colored sugar sprinkles (to make up for the crappy oatmeal).

Today's Activity? Christmas Pictures. Could I have waited until the absolute last minute or what?

It's almost too painful to discuss. I think I lost five years of my life trying to get Christmas pictures of these two.

The awful thing is, they really weren't bad. Really. But, I found myself threatening to send them to time out, to take a nap, etc., etc., to get them to actually look at the camera at the same time.

Note to self--DO NOT, no matter how great of an idea it may seem at the time, attempt to use props in Christmas pictures next year.

That picture of Owen didn't make the final cut, but it was too cute not to post for grandma.
Our Gingerbread House in Miniature

Joy (our elf) sometimes brings treats back from Santa. So far, he's brought back a wooden texture matching game, two packages of orange Tic-Tacs (they love those), two Christmas suckers, and our gingerbread house kit.

I was thinking this kit would be easier than my last gingerbread attempt with my nieces. I was also thinking smaller equals less mess, easier decoration, easier assembly...wrong.

The 4 packs of icing included in the package was nothing like royal icing. So I had to end up whipping up a batch of royal icing so the roof of our house wouldn't keep sliding off.

But, that's okay, while I was doing that, Owen was mixing the remaining four colors of icing together with a paintbrush and making purple paint for the roof, when he wasn't eating the decorations.

After the catastrophe was averted, it went pretty smoothly from there on out.

For $2.99 (on sale @ Michael's) I'm not quite sure what I expected. Since it was Santa's money, I can't complain.

Jack is missing from the pictures because he fell asleep too early. :(

I can't find the single kits like we used, but here's a link for the kits at Oriental Trading.

Mosaic Squares Pictures

Owen loves to do "crafts" and Jack likes to do anything his brother does. I made a promise to myself many years ago that when I had children I'd try to create lasting memories. I can't tell you the fond memories I have of my parents taking time out of their work week to help with a project or teach me some important skill. It's the little things, I think.

I'll never forget my dad helping me make a shadow box in second grade. It was a park scene with benches, trees, walking path, and even little birds nibbling breadcrumbs off the ground. The teacher liked it so much she asked to keep it.

Anyway, we do crafty things all the time, and I figured where better to document those projects than here.

Since the boys are still too little to conceptualize a picture for their mosaics, I just drew an outline of a Christmas tree for them. I also cut out the squares, but the rest of the handiwork is theirs.

Jack did an excellent job, and though I knew his attention span wouldn't see him through to the end of this project, he lasted longer than I thought he would.

Apparently, a pacifier is essential to serious crafting.

They both loved the "blue glue" stick, The label lies though, because it doesn't dry clear. I like those sticks because the children can see where they have applied glue and tend not to use too much.

Owen is proficient with all my paper punches and he decided he needed the circle for ornaments.

All in all, a perfect project for today!
