I never realized until I gave birth to a son with a congenital heart defect just how prevalent heart defects are. We've come a long way in the past fifty years but still have a long way to go. You would think that since some heart defects aren't detected until weeks after a baby is born that more would be done in the hospital to assure a child has a healthy heart before being dismissed. We are eternally grateful to the doctors and PICU nurses in Jacksonville and Owen's cardiologist here in town for taking such great care of our little boy.

"Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) are the number 1 birth defect and the leading cause of birth defect related death, yet there is very little public awareness of the 35 known diagnosis of CHD."
