Yesterday was Tommy and Shelby's (youngest niece) birthdays. This year it was a Madagascar party (for Shelby, not for Tommy ;)

After church today we are planning on going to lunch for Tommy's birthday. Later today, Owen has another birthday party to attend. His little friend is turning one.

All this partying is keeping the sewing at a minimum. I am still plugging along, though. I have found the need for a really good pair of scissors. Before I started sewing, I thought paying $20 for a pair of scissors was sufficient. In fact, I almost gagged paying that much. Now I see I might need an even better pair. This sewing...it is an expensive hobby.

Project Completed

This is my completed backtack project. I just couldn't make the blue fabric provided by my partner to work so I decided the checked fabric would work for the pockets. The pockets on the left are pleated...my first venture into pleating. I made a couple of mistakes which I hope aren't visible to anyone but me. I see many more sewing projects in my future. Now I need some notions and goodies to send to my top secret partner.

Owen at 7 months

Son, you are growing too fast. I wish I could stop time and hold you here for a little longer. In the past few days you are starting to get up on your hands and knees and I fear crawling is just around the corner. You prefer to scoot with your head on the ground using your feet to propel you forward. You'll settle for rolling if you think it will get you to your destination faster.

It is amazing how much you have learned in the last couple of weeks. You are incredibly spoiled but there are so many people to blame. You crack yourself up by making noises and grabbing ahold of the poor cat.

You fight sleep like a champ. I had always heard the term "fighting sleep" before but son, you give it a new meaning. I don't have the heart to let you cry it out no matter what the books say. So every night since you were born, you have fallen asleep on my chest or on my lap. I figure there is plenty of time to fall asleep by yourself. When you finally decide it might be time to go to bed you close your eyes and quietly cry. When that gets boring you hum to keep yourself awake. In between that, and the tadpole-like kicking, it's a wonder you ever settle down for the night.

Sewing Pouch in Progress

This is the outside of the sewing pouch I worked on Wednesday night. It doesn't look much like a pouch just yet. In fact, it might just stay a large flat circle if I can't get the casing adjusted. The pattern called for home decorating fabrics, cotton, or cotton blends. The green fabric is a heavier home decorating fabric. In fact, it is too heavy for the casing size. Which means, I need a larger casing and larger drawstring to actually make it a pouch. I am thinking I need to make it twice the size and use much heavier cording. Lesson learned.

Upcoming Projects
I successfully managed to thread the sewing machine and even made a prototype of a small drawstring bag. Not without having to ask my sister for help, though.

Since Tropical Storm Arlene didn't blow us away (thank you, Lord) we celebrated by going shopping for fabric. Above is my portion of the goodies. Guess I need to get to work.

Back Tack Goodies
Here are the supplies I received from my mystery back tack buddy. I have been thinking about what I'm making and gathering a few extra supplies. Now I just have to remember how to thread the sewing machine. That is not a joke.

We went to Aunt Jackie's pool after church on Sunday. Owen had a great time. I am not used to sunscreen. After slathering it on the boy, my hopes of getting a slight tan were diminished.

Still no rocks for the flower bed. Still two incomplete scrapbook projects. I did receive my back tack fabric in the mail. I will post a picture of it as soon as I clear the memory card on the camera.

I have spent most of the day watching Survivor All Stars which I ordered from Amazon a week ago.

We took the girls to see The Longest Yard on Sunday. I have never seen the original but the remake is hilarious. I didn't really expect it to be that great so it was a pleasant surprise. When I got home from the movies I pulled my glasses out of my purse and they were completely broken in half. I only need them to watch television and drive at night but I feel lost without them. I called Target Optical and even though the warranty is expired, they are going to replace the frames. That makes me happy.

I have two incomplete scrapbook layouts sitting on my desk. I keep looking for that final touch needed to complete both of them. This means that I am shopping and collecting supplies but not getting anything else done. I kept waiting to finish one so that I would have something of interest to post here.

We celebrated Memorial Day at my sister's house. The food was delicious-ribs, chicken, corn on the cob wrapped in bacon, potato salad, baked beans, pasta salad, grilled sausage...yum.

My flowerbed is almost complete. T needs to get his butt to the rock yard for the finishing touches. That is another picture I could post if it was completed.

My life is a series of incomplete projects.
